Mr. Milo

Mr. Milo is my new furry best friend.

He's a 4 month old Golden Retriever. He came here to live with me just a few short days ago and already I couldn't imagine life without him.

I'm pretty sure the people who sold him to me were not breeders as they said they were.

I found some awful things online about them after the fact and even though I suspected things weren't quite right before I took him, I just couldn't leave him there. He has his first vet appointment on Wednesday and I hope they can tell me that he is healthy and as a 4 month old puppy should be.

Missing My Boy

His name was Jackson.

It's been 2 months now.

I can't even describe the emptiness I feel.

I miss pressing my cheek into the soft fur on the top of his head when I hugged him.

He hated looking at the camera and I'm pretty sure he hated modeling my crochet projects too, but he did it anyway because he loved me.

 He was so proud of his yellow felted necklace. He was right there beside me when I made it for him.

His claws were always a little too long because he hated having them trimmed and he hated a bath even more. I had to cover the wall of the shower with chipped ham just to get him in there.

I held onto him for a month longer than I should have, feeding him pain medicine twice a day.

I knew I was being selfish, but the thought of letting him go was killing me.

I miss his bowl of water on the porch.

I miss his bed in the corner and his basket of toys.

I miss our walks together.

I miss him hogging the couch and

the look he gave me when I made him wear a hat.

I miss his long yoga toes and how they smelled like popcorn and socks.

There's a huge hole in my life now.  My days are so quiet.

I've found some comfort in knowing that my boy isn't suffering any more, but my heart is broken.

I was lucky to have him with me for over 10 years.

The memories of those 10 years will live in my heart forever.

Acorns and Apples

The air was cool this evening and I managed to get a walk in with Jack after dinner.

We were doing a bit of exploring near the garden shed and acorns were falling from the sky.

They are really large this year compared to recent years.

I picked a few up and put them in my pocket, then moved on as Jack was in a hurry to follow the deer trail to the apple tree. Lots of prime sniffing for Jack.

Then back to the porch for some relaxing.

Blue Birds of Happiness

It's pouring rain here in PA today, but yesterday was quite nice.

Jack and I enjoyed a walk together, then spent a little time relaxing on the porch.

I noticed the bluebirds were busy doing a little house cleaning.

The mulberry tree has given up it's leaves to the frost, and the birds took a break there.

The swallows that took shelter in the bird hotel last Spring are long gone.

The colors of Fall have faded into into gray, except for the orange of a single pumpkin, stuck between Halloween and Thanksgiving.

As it continues to rain, Jack and I will spend the day indoors, looking out.

Jack In Red

Beautiful Mud

Well, maybe it's not beautiful, but I'm so happy to have some.

It means the snow is melting, if only for a day or so.

 The past couple of days it's been above freezing during the daylight hours.

 I was busy doing laundry and I noticed Jack looking out the window at the sunshine.

 He hasn't had many walks recently and I know he doesn't mind the mud.

 So, off we went. Walking in the mud under the pretty blue sky.

 Saw some fungi lying on the ice. Most things are still buried under snow.

 Even though this is a weed of some sort, it gave me hope that Spring will be here soon.

 This piece of fungus was our found treasure for todays walk.

 Once it's dry I'll tuck it into my journal.

A Stroll Outdoors

Today was a bit chilly and rainy.

Not the kind of day I would normally choose for a stroll through the fallen leaves, but when I saw how sad Jack looked, staring out the window, I stepped into my boots, grabbed my camera and Jack's leash, and set out for a hike around the property.

 

I needed this time outdoors with nature as much as Jack did.

We both felt better after our walk.

Gifts From My Friend

Last week was a week filled with emotions, both good and bad.

Since this is my HAPPY go to place, I'm going to share the good.

I received two wonderful packages from my dear friend Marcie, filled with the most wonderful folk art ever and I just had to share some photos. 

This is one of the dolls. I just love her.

 And this sweet dog, looks like my Jack.

 A tiny plush pony in a special pouch.

All stitched up by hand with pattern included.

 And these crows are just two of the amazing handmade birds.

I love them all, but these are my favorite!

 Did I mention how much I love the crows?

They are painted fabric that feel and look like leather.

 Such sweet horses.

A mama and a baby.

 Great big fruit.

How fun!!!

 A stack of special papers for framing and for crafting.

These are but a few of the wonderful handmade goodies that I received from Marcie.

It was the best part of my week.
