The Simple Things

Today as I stepped out onto my porch with my morning coffee, I could hear a woodpecker in the distance. Smaller birds were chattering and grouping together as they do this time of year. Preparing to fly off someplace warmer until Spring returns again.
The ornamental grass has burst into plumes and I can see changes in the colors of the surrounding woods.
Chamomile has taken over what was once the vegetable garden.

It's overcast and rain is in the forecast.
This is the time of year when I feel the need to hibernate. Depression sneaks up on me and I look for things to surround myself with that bring me comfort. It's always the simple things that are most comforting.
Like finding comfort in simple stitching.
Primitive stitching.
Perfectly imperfect.
Natural linen and cotton with antique shell buttons.
The way the textiles feel in my hands and the rhythm of the stitches calm me.
As the bits of linen and spools of cotton come together, I realize that this simple primitive form is me.
A little sad and craving solitude.
Hanging in there, searching for a creative spark.
Realizing that the beauty is in the simplicity.

Acorns and Apples

The air was cool this evening and I managed to get a walk in with Jack after dinner.
We were doing a bit of exploring near the garden shed and acorns were falling from the sky.
They are really large this year compared to recent years.
I picked a few up and put them in my pocket, then moved on as Jack was in a hurry to follow the deer trail to the apple tree. Lots of prime sniffing for Jack.
Then back to the porch for some relaxing.
Loving Fall

Chippy Autumn Porch

Found this table buried under STUFF in the garage.
It's so perfectly chippy and it needed rescued.
I've been asking for help with this all summer long, but there are so many projects going on around here that it just wasn't priority. So, yesterday I managed to do the job myself.
It now has a new home on my porch.
Love the big chunky legs.
And it's the perfect place for my new window box.
Made of an old window and some reclaimed wood.
It holds my dried sunflowers.
And the pumpkin from my daughter's garden.
I've been on the lookout for some bittersweet to add to my Fall decor, but haven't been able to find any, so I settled for some artificial for now.

Time to get on with another project.
Thanks for having a look at my chippy Autumn porch.

Roses and a Rooster

Purchased a sweet little piece of art today.
Done by "Craig Peterson", of Indiana, PA.
You can find him HERE.
He uses coffee, paint and ink to create his "Coffee Art".

Treated myself to a sprig of tiny roses in the colors of the season as well.
Took time out for some delicious salted carmel coffee with a friend.
She brought me this amazing clay pumpkin yesterday.
Just love it!
It was a lovely day and a great way to end the week.
Hope you all had a great day too.

Dog Rescue Donation Candle

How was your Labor Day Weekend?
Did you "LABOR" like we did or did you party and picnic?
I painted doors while my husband painted stairs yesterday.
Sometimes it seems like all we do is work on this house.
Anyway…I did manage to spend some lovely time with my daughter last Friday, as I was talking about in my last post. When I sat down to relax last evening I lit the candle that I bought when we were at "Swans Downe"
It smells wonderful and 10% of the profits are donated to dog rescue.
It is made by sydneyhaleco.com
This little owl decoration was a gift from my daughter.
Well, Labor Day is gone and tomorrow will be another day of working on this house.
Lots to do before winter.

A Very Old Clip Board

On Friday my daughter and I made a trip to Ligonier.
We had lunch at a lovely little cafe and then made our way over to "Swansdowne Antiques and Gifts".
We each bought an old clipboard and a small bunch of dried flowers.

Best of all was the time we spent together.
There's nothing nicer than a mother daughter day.
Good memories.

Always Purging

Too much stuff!
Constantly purging.
Yesterday I gathered 5 more large boxes of stuff to be donated.
I took photos of some of the keepers, just to make the day more tolerable.
Whatever I can fit into the top of this cabinet is what I can keep.
It's odds and ends transfer ware and pretty bits of china and such.
 Any overflow gets donated.
If I bring in anything new, something old has to go.
I rarely use this stuff, but just can't seem to part with it.
I guess I'll always be purging.
Just too much stuff.
