It's Piling Up Out There

Yesterday was such a blustery day.
The schools in this area closed at noon and today are opening a couple of hours late.
I haven't left the house all week and Jack is disgusted by it all, knowing he won't be going for his walk  any time soon.
I've been practicing my spinning while I'm stuck inside.
Tried some coils or bee hives or whatever these are.
Pretty uneven and not very fluffy, but I'm figuring it out.

Today I'll be taking a break from the spinning and doing some much needed cleaning.
I'll be back to spinning again for the weekend.
Been doing some crochet work in the evenings and hope to have some photos of some finished pieces soon.
Stay safe and warm everyone. It's awful out there.

Snow Day

I'm taking a snow day today.
I started by sleeping in and now I'm watching "ellen".
Jack and I are inside looking out as the snow is piling up.
I fed the birds first thing this morning.
When the feeder is empty they show up on the porch to let me know.

Since the snow is making it more difficult for the deer to find food, they too check the bird feeder every day.
I've been considering making a trip to the feed mill for some corn.
This is the mama deer…
and these are her babies.
They're eating all my trees and shrubs.
Aren't they beautiful?
When the snow stops and the roads are cleared I'll be making that trip to the feed mill.
I think it's going to be less expensive than replacing all my trees.

Imagine

My word for 2015 is IMAGINE.
I never imagined I'd be spinning my own yarn.
Carded wool with bits of silk.
Imagining what I can create with this.
I imagined some beads made from Anita's pink hair.
I will string them and hang them from her photo.
A lid cover made from a my hand spun wool and silk yarn.
I trimmed it in some really beautiful locks that I bought here.
Check out their fiber…it's gorgeous!
Imagination.
 Imagining.

A Bouquet Of Paper Tubes

It's just too cold to be outdoors much lately.
It makes my bones hurt and it sure didn't help when I fell on the ice while shoveling a path to the garage last week.  So, I look for things to keep me busy indoors.
I made a pretty bouquet of paper tubes last week.
I'm not quite sure what I'll use these for, but it was fun and relaxing to make them.
To make these, wrap 4 inch wide strips of paper (junk mail, old magazine pages, etc.) around a wooden skewer and glue the end with a dab of elmers glue.
I like them just the way they are without a purpose, but I've seen some pretty cool things made from these, like containers and picture frames.  Thinking about flattening them and weaving them or rolling them into shapes.
I like the ones with lots of color best.

Reconnecting With Fiber

Been sitting at the spinning wheel this week.

CROCHET
This hat was made with some wool yarn that I made last Spring.
 KNIT
Over the summer I played around with acid dyes. This green yarn was spun first then dyed.
 BITS and PIECES
I love this yarn. I made it using all the bits that I've cleaned out of the carder over time.
The randomness of it makes it interesting.
Made yesterday.  Love the soft colors.
I ordered some pretty wool locks today from a little shop on Etsy.
I'll share some pics when it gets here.

A New Year

For some odd reason this New Year really does feel like a new beginning. I've gone out a bit more rather than my usual hibernation at this time of year. Spent a day in Pittsburgh with my man and his two youngest daughters. I regret that I have no photos, but I did order new glasses while I was there.
I learned how to take a selfie and lost 5 pounds so far this year.
Finally got to go to Urban Outfitters and found the coolest slippers ever.
Had lunch with a friend at a wonderful little coffee shop.
Tried something different with my crochet.
I've been sharing my knowledge of the hook and my love of fiber.
Jack and I have been walking more.
Keeping things simple.

I'm looking forward to this New Year.
Wishing you all a wonderful 2015!

Christmas 2014

Wow…I haven't posted anything in forever it seems. I hope your holiday was good.  We had such a busy holiday season here with family and friends and it was wonderful.  I especially loved spending some time with our little Vera.
I'm hoping to get back into some sort of routine here now that it's quiet again, so that I can share some creative projects with everyone. Until then, I'd like to share some photos of my friend Marcie's awesome handmade goodies. She has been doing some beautiful things with paper and I was super excited to receive these gifts from her!

Thank you so much dear Marcie!
I will cherish these forever.
