The Monastery Bell

Wake up everybody.
The sun is shining!

Today I want to share with you something that my husband brought home for me last week.
It was supposed to be a surprise for my birthday, but I caught him sneaking in the house with it and I just couldn't wait.

I did a little research on it and found out that it is a European bell that hung in the hallway of a monastery.

It's made of brass and this one has a lot of patina.

It was used to wake the nuns or monks and also to signal certain prayer times.

It has a really great gongy sound.

It's so unusual and the history behind it is fascinating to me.

Now I just need to find the perfect place to hang it.

What's the most unusual thing you've found lately?

Wrapped In Warmth

For the past week or so I've been working on this crocheted blanket.
It's a birthday gift for one of my girls.
She's allergic to wool, so I used  acrylic yarn.

I used two strands throughout and did a double crochet ribbed pattern.

It's thick and warm and snuggly.
I used 4 pounds of yarn to make this blanket.

I finished it just in time.

It kept me nice and warm as I worked on it.
Hope you are staying warm where you are.
Thanks for stopping by!

Frilly Friday

I love the blogs that dedicate something special for each day of the week. I wait in anticipation for their beautiful images and creative ideas to spark my own creativity. I am greatful that these generous, talented women are willing to share the beauty of their worlds with me and I would like to think that I might be able to do the same for them. That being said... I am calling today "Frilly Friday". Here is a beautiful, lacey, envelope style pouch that was a gift from a dear friend many years ago. It's all satin and lace, and has faded a bit over the years, but still remains just as lovely. I found this old, white pillowcase with hand crocheted, lace edging that belonged to my grandmother. Such a treasure to find after all these years of being hidden away in a box. It brings back delightful memories of times spent with Grandma Anna.
