Stinging Nettle Fiber

Who knew that this amazing organic fiber could be made from the Stinging Nettle plant.
It's a bit difficult to crochet with as it's not as smooth as most other fibers and has no stretch to it, but it has a great rustic look and becomes softer the more it is handled. I am pairing it up with these lovely chunks of quartz to make a wearable earthy art piece.
 On my work table.
It's my current work in progress.

  1. I can't wait to see the finished product. And I wonder if the horse nettle weeds we have in our field could possibly be turned into something so beautiful. If so, I'd be happy to send you a truckload! As always, you're an inspiration - and I love keeping up with your posts.

    1. Thanks Cheryl! I ordered this fiber from Scotland. I have no idea what process they use to spin it. I need to research it. I have a feeling that it's not something I'll want to try. The fibers are very short and break easily. Too tedious for me. What are you working on these days?

  3. Amazing! I just ate stinging nettle at a farm to table dinner a few weeks ago. It's really a cool looking fiber and I love what you're doing with it!
