Snow Day

I'm taking a snow day today.
I started by sleeping in and now I'm watching "ellen".
Jack and I are inside looking out as the snow is piling up.
I fed the birds first thing this morning.
When the feeder is empty they show up on the porch to let me know.

Since the snow is making it more difficult for the deer to find food, they too check the bird feeder every day.
I've been considering making a trip to the feed mill for some corn.
This is the mama deer…
and these are her babies.
They're eating all my trees and shrubs.
Aren't they beautiful?
When the snow stops and the roads are cleared I'll be making that trip to the feed mill.
I think it's going to be less expensive than replacing all my trees.

Ruffled Feathers

Inspired by the little blue birds who are nesting outside my kitchen window.
Instead of working on my house, I'm playing.
Made of random bits and pieces of vintage lace and fabric, then stained with diluted acrylic paint.
I suppose I made them because they make me happy.

Feathered Friends

At the bird feeder outside my kitchen window are so many cute little birds.

I love watching them and so do these guys.
They're watching the feeders for their next meal too and they don't eat seeds.

Wishing you a calm and peaceful day.

Royal Birds

Hi all!
This is the 2nd project for this weekend using antique grain sacks.
The first was my experiment with a jewelry dress form, as seen in my last post.
I also made these birds from a grain sack.

The crowns and beaks I made from polymer clay.

I've been working on a few other projects as well using reclaimed fabric.

I'll be posting those at a later time.

Thanks for stopping by!
See ya soon.

Morning Visitor

For the past several mornings I've had a little visitor while having my coffee.
He and his mate are busy building their nest in the birdhouse outside my kitchen window.
He must see something in my kitchen that looks like nesting material.
He flew smack into the window a few times, but has finally figured out that there is glass and a screen there.
Now he just hangs onto the edge of the window looking in.
I think he's just goofing off so he doesn't have to help with the nest building.
What do you think?
Have a great day!

Finishing Touches & A Sweet Little Christmas Lamb

It finally stopped raining long enough for me to gather some pine for the finishing touches on my holiday decor.
I love the smell of fresh pine and it was a much needed break to be able to have a bit of outdoor time, gathering branches. I even found a downed branch with a small nest still clinging to it.

There are pine branches tucked in everywhere.

I found some beautiful moss to tuck in here and there too.

Maybe next year this mantel will have a real fireplace to go with it, but for this year it makes a nice place to hold more pine.

I wish I would have gotten a real tree.
Next year for sure.

Some more decor.

I think I may have taken too many photos today.
It was a nice distraction from cleaning.

These next photos are of a lamb that I crocheted recently.

And last, but not least, there's Jack sporting his new scarf that I made for him.

Have a wonderful Christmas!

Nesting

August is a nesting month for me.
Cleaning, organizing, and preparing for the long, cold months ahead.
It feels like Fall here already, with temps in the 40's last night.
Anyway, while working in my kitchen, I noticed that there are quite a few birds nesting there as well.

There's this chippy, vintage, ceramic chicken.
It has a hook on the bottom for hanging towels or pot holders.

There's also this cute little ceramic pie bird.
I don't bake many pies, but it looks cute sitting on the shelf.

Here's another chicken.

And another.

And a sweet little bird.

No wonder I feel like nesting.

Have a great weekend everyone!
Is anybody else nesting?

A Box Full Of Nature

This started out as one of those little unfinished boxes that you buy at the craft store. I removed the hardware, added wooden drawer pulls for legs, painted it white, then sanded it to remove some of the paint.
Next, I added the collage to the top and sealed it.
I replaced all the hardware and filled the box with little things from nature.

I like the way it turned out. It's another little thing for my home that makes me think of Spring.

I'm still playing around with ideas for my Umelecky shop on Etsy.
I needed to make a fresh start, but can't decide on a product.
I've been thinking of a shop where everything is made from recycled materials. That would give me a broader selection of things to make and would give me the choice of creating several types of items as opposed to just one. I get so bored making the same things over and over again.
Anyway, that's just one idea. I'm not going to get in a hurry to decide right now. I'm having fun with my vintage shop and will continue to think about ideas for my handmade shop for a while.

I'd like to say thanks to everyone who has been following my blog and thanks for all your kind comments as well. I love reading about the things you're up to and the projects you are working on and it feels good to know that you also read mine.
Thanks for stopping by!
I'll be stopping in to visit you too.
Have a beautiful day everyone!
