Still Raining

The water in the yard went down a bit today and then the storms came again.
The forecast now is rain every day until next Friday.
My poor dog was so frightened by it all that I found him hiding in the basement.
While I was down there I discovered that the water was up to the basement door.
My husband dug a ditch to get the water to go another direction.
We found a couple areas in the basement where the water had come in, but were able to dry it up quickly.
It's awful out there, so I'm staying inside.
We are safe and have no storm damage and I am grateful for that.
Most of the folks in this area haven't been as lucky.
Hope all is well where you are.

Be Careful What You Wish For

I wished for rain so I wouldn't need to water the garden and this is what I got.
This is a photo of my back yard taken early in the evening and the water is still rising with more rain in the forecast.
I saw big trees and lots of debris floating past.
There was a family of ducks swimming where my lawn was a few hours before.
Here the water was about to run out over my driveway.
Here it is up to the edge of the road right past the end of my driveway.
Our air conditioner has stopped working because the drains are too full and our well water has turned to mud.
I just went out on the deck to see how close the water is to the house and it's starting to worry me.
I can hear a chainsaw in the distance.
Several of the towns near here are completely under water and people have been evacuated.
Most roads in the area were closed this evening and I suspect they still are.
Apparently the city of Dubois which is about 25 miles north of here, is in a state of emergency and there is no way in or out.
On the news I saw people there being rescued by boat.
This is so not what I was wishing for.
Hope you are all safe and dry where you are tonight.
Please send prayers our way.

A Small Remodel Project

My dear husband surprised me with this doll house last Sunday.
It needs a little attention, but over all, it's in pretty good shape.
I like the look of the outside and with a little glue, a fresh coat of paint and some minor changes here and there, I think it could be fabulous.
The 80's looking interior could use a redo.
I'm thinking this might be a fun project and as soon as I make room for it in my little studio, I'll get right on it.
I like the color of these old worn baby shoes in a jar.

So maybe the walls will be a soft gray.
Or maybe I'll paper the inside walls with dictionary pages. (my friend Marilyn is doing her bathroom in vintage dictionary pages).
Something I'd love to do with a room in my own house, but my husband doesn't understand.
So, I think that's it...gray,a bit of black and white, and dictionary pages.
I can't wait to get started!

Gardening While I Wait

I asked when the hallway outside my studio would be finished.
It was started 3 months ago.
"Just a bit more sanding"
So while I wait
I garden.
Trimming back the roses.
Transplanting.

Playing in the dirt.

Breathe

I woke up this morning and the first thing I saw was a note on the kitchen counter that said "Someone left the fridge open all night and there's water all over the floor".
The first thing I thought was "OMG and WTF...
Why is this my problem???
I'm pretty sure I ate at Taco Bell last night."
Then I went outside,
felt the cool morning breeze,
and walked over to my garden.
That's when I remembered I'm the one who turned  off the fridge door alarm when I was putting the groceries away the day before.
I took a deep breath, came back inside, looked at my vacation in a jar,
and decided...If that's the worse thing that happens today, I'm luckier than most.
Take a breath and have a great day!

Calm

Today I made a bowl sing.
Thought about how calming blue is.
Noticed how lovely the light looked coming through my kitchen window.
